INFORMATION – DENMARK
You do not have to speak Danish to be an aupair in Denmark. This is where Hans Christian Anderson
was born – the author of wonderful fairytales including “The little mermaid”, whose statue you can see inCopenhagen. Denmark is made up of many islands and whilst Copenhagen is a first-world city it is like
living in a fairy tale village. Great seafood and wonderful friendly people.

Make Denmark your ideal GAP YEAR or EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME

There is always a demand for aupairs and those with a qualification are highly valued. Families will give preference to applicants with the JCR childminding/aupair certificate. Obtain your aupair certificate now through the on-line JCR Aupair course. Benefit by being given priority placement.

Age group:
20 - 26 Single females only.
Education: Completed year 10 or higher.
Childcare Experience: Minimum 50 hours but 200 hours is preferred. This can be any fairly regular interaction with children not related to you, up to age 12.
Period of Commitment: 12 month placements all year round.
Visa: 12 month Aupair visa. This visa can be extended if you wish to remain with the host family for a further 6 months. Holders of a European Union passport are not subject to any visa conditions but do have to register with the Danish authorities.

Applicants to Denmark must speak good English as families wish their children to learn to speak English.

A driving licence is preferred but not essential as there will be some families who will not require a driver.

You pay for your own return ticket. At the end of your aupair year the Danish family will refund half the cost of the ticket [this is a ruling of the Danish aupair visa]. If you really endear yourself to the hostfamily over the 12 months, you may find that the family will give you the full cost of the airfare as a completion bonus.

If there is financial hardship and you really want to go to Denmark JCR can negotiate that you are given some help towards the cost of your airfare. How much help, will depend on the family.

Families want you to speak English so that their children learn to speak English as a living language as English is widely spoken in Denmark as a 2nd language.

Attendance at language school to learn Danish is optional. As you will be hearing and seeing Danish all around you for a year it is most likely that you will soon pick up basic Danish.

However many Danish families are really impressed if you want to learn to speak Danish and will help you by speaking to you in Danish to help you to learn They also like you to attend classes to learn Danish. Once you have your visa, there are very low cost Danish classes available.

Australian and New Zealand passport holders enter Denmark on the 90 day holiday visa. Their aupair visa is applied for once with the host family. They will be assisted by JCR’s associate and the host family in Denmark to obtain their aupair visa.

Denmark is well placed to visit Sweden, Norway and Finland. Germany and Holland are just over the border.

The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. It is suggested that should you wish to travel in Europe, you take additional money with you or a credit/debit card.
