INFORMATION - FRANCE
See Paris in the spring, walk along the River Seine. Explore Brittany and Normandy. Visit the South of France, Provence, The Dordogne. The land of Napoleon, Versailles, good food, cheeses and wine.

Make France your ideal GAP YEAR or EXPERIENCE OF A LIFE TIME

There is always a demand for aupairs and those with a qualification are highly valued. Families will give preference to applicants with the JCR aupair/childminding certificate. Obtain your aupair certificate now through the on-line JCR Aupair course. Benefit by being given priority placement .

Age group: 18 – 29 Single Males and Females.
Education: Completed year 12 or higher
Childcare Experience: Minimum of 200 hours. This can be any fairly regular interaction with children not related to you, up to age 12.
Period of commitment: 6 and 12 month placements all year round.
Summer aupair placement: Mid June - mid September only. Applications open in October and close 31st
March.
Visa : 12 month Aupair Visa. Applicable to 12 month stays only. This visa can be extended if you wish to remain with the host family for a further 6 months.
If your country has a 12 month Working Holiday Visa agreement with France you can apply for periods les than 12 months.
Holders of a European Union passport are not subject to any visa conditions but do have to register with the French authorities.

Applicants to France must speak good English as families wish their children to learn to speak English.
A driving license is preferred but not essential as there will be families who do not need a driver.
You pay your own return airfare and if travelling with the WH Visa, provide your own health insurance cover.

AUPAIR
• Work for 30-35 hours per week.
• Childcare and light housework which can include ironing, dusting, vacuuming.
• Baby sit for 2/3 evenings per week.
• 1.5 - 2 days free per week.
• Earn 80 Euro per week net.
• Be willing to attend 10 hours French classes per week
• Be willing and able to adapt to another culture
• Have a sense of responsibility and a positive attitude

YOU GET

• Host family provides health insurance cover
• Host family provides a monthly transport ticket to get to and from language classes
• Full back up and support from JCR’s associate
• Telephone numbers of other aupairs.

Non-European citizens cannot work in France as Mother’s Helps or Qualified nannies. Applicants with an EU passport and if suitably experienced or qualified can be placed as nannies or Mother’s Helps.

Aupair applicants [no EU passport] with in depth experience or qualifications are in a position to negotiate a rate above the minimum of Euro 80.

On the aupair visa attendance at language classes is compulsory. The fees for these classes are around Euro 46 – 76 per month which the applicant is responsible for out of the amount they are paid. If you endear yourself to the host family it is possible to negotiate with the host family to pay towards the language school fees.


The aupair visa to France can take between 8 -12 weeks to be finalised from the time of placement with a host family. Please be prepared to the wait.

The WH Visa [if applicable to your country] takes about 10 days to issue.

We suggested that all applicants have at least 200 words of basic French before they leaveespecially if they have not studied French in either high school or at tertiary level. Knowing some vocabulary will help you to settle in.

The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. Should you wish to travel in Europe, take additional money with you or a credit/debit card.
